Examination Policy

Continuous and comprehensive assessment as CBSE prescribes: two periodic tests, two examinations, portfolio and subject-enrichment marks, and no ranking.

At Bhaktivedanta Model School, assessment is an integral part of the learning journey, designed to nurture knowledge, skills, values and self-reflection. Aligned with CBSE guidelines and the vision of NEP 2020, our examination system adopts a balanced and continuous approach to evaluating both scholastic and co-scholastic development.

A variety of assessment tools — periodic tests, projects, practical work, subject enrichment activities, presentations, notebook evaluation and experiential tasks — enable students to demonstrate understanding beyond conventional examinations. The school gives appropriate learning time between the various examinations.

A dedicated examination room with the necessary infrastructure ensures the safety and security of examination material, and a robust standard operating procedure keeps the process transparent and aligned with the established norms and conventions of CBSE.

We do not publish class ranks and we do not read marks out in class. A report card is a conversation between a teacher, a parent and a child, and ranking gets in the way of it.

Weighting, Grades VI to X

ComponentWeightWhat it covers
Periodic tests10%Best of two written tests per term

Subject enrichment5%Practical work, project, speaking-and-listening or map work by subject

How it is run

  • Examination dates published in the annual calendar
  • Papers set and moderated in-house against the CBSE blueprint
  • Seating, spacing and invigilation to CBSE norms
  • Answer scripts shown to parents at the following meeting
  • Approved accommodations — extra time, scribe, reader — arranged on record
  • Remedial support scheduled for any child below the school’s threshold
  • Malpractice dealt with under the school discipline policy
  • No class ranking published, at any grade

Promotion

Promotion is decided on the year’s overall performance and attendance, not on a single paper. Where a child is not ready, the school talks to the family well before the result, never after it.

Come and see the school on an ordinary day — call the office and we will keep someone free to walk you around.
