Integrated Science Lab

Science at Bhaktivedanta Model School is taught in one integrated laboratory rather than three partly-equipped ones. Physics, chemistry, biology and environmental science share a single well-appointed room, and the arrangement is deliberate: a laboratory in daily use is better equipped, better maintained and better supervised than three that are opened occasionally.

The integrated arrangement also reflects how the disciplines actually meet. A lesson on respiration can move from a slide under the microscope to a test for carbon dioxide without leaving the bench, and a child comes to see science as one enquiry rather than three entries on a timetable.

Laid out in accordance with the CBSE Affiliation Bye-Laws, the room is spacious and well-ventilated. Compound microscopes, physics apparatus, a chemistry bench with sink and reagent store, specimens, models, measuring instruments, glassware and charts stand ready, so a class begins its practical work rather than its preparation.

Under the guidance of experienced faculty, children conduct experiments, take part in STEM activities, carry projects through and keep a practical record book in their own hand. They are asked to reason from what they observe, not from what they expected to observe.

Safety is built into the room rather than added to it: fire equipment, a first-aid kit, secure chemical storage and clearly posted protocols, with every practical session supervised.
