Holistic Development

The half of a school day that never appears in a mark sheet.

Overview

A child spends about a thousand hours a year in this building. If all of them go on the syllabus, we have wasted most of them.

The house system, the clubs, the games period, the excursions and the service work below are timetabled, staffed and recorded — because things a school takes seriously get a slot in the timetable, and things it does not, get a certificate in March.

School House System

Four houses, every child in one from Grade I, and a year-long competition that carries responsibility as well as points.

Co-curricular Activities

A weekly activity period in which every child does something with their hands, their voice or their feet.

School Clubs

Eight clubs, each run by a teacher with a student secretary, meeting on a fixed day and answerable for one visible thing each term.

Sports & Games

A games period for every grade every week, an open ground, inter-house leagues and a sports day the whole school competes in.

School Events & Competitions

The fixed points of the school year — annual day, sports day, exhibitions, the national days and the inter-house calendar.

Health & Wellness

Health check-ups on record, a stocked health care room, safe drinking water, yoga on the timetable and a counsellor children can reach on their own.

Tours & Excursions

A graded programme of day excursions and residential tours, each with a written itinerary, a staff ratio and parental consent on file.

Field Visits

Short, subject-linked visits — one per grade per term — where a topic is met in the place it actually happens.

Community Outreach

Service that is regular rather than ceremonial — and outreach to other schools through the teacher training centre and the material we publish.
