Field Visits
Short, subject-linked visits — one per grade per term — where a topic is met in the place it actually happens.
A field visit is different from an excursion. It is short, it is tied to a unit being taught that month, and it produces work: a set of observations, a survey, a sketch or a report.
Every grade makes at least one field visit a term, and the teacher who teaches the unit plans it.
The kind of visit we run
Civic & community
The ward office, post office, police station, bank or the local market — with a survey or interview task to complete.
Science & environment
A water-treatment plant, nursery, dairy, weather station or a stretch of hillside for a plant and soil study.
Work & industry
A small manufacturing unit, printing press, bakery or workshop, to see a process from raw material to product.
Heritage & geography
Forts, stepwells and other stonework studied as architecture, museums, and a contour walk to read the land around the campus.
What comes back to class
- A written observation report or completed worksheet
- A survey or interview, analysed in the following lesson
- Sketches, measurements or photographs for a display
- A short presentation to the class by each group
