Disaster Management Plan
The school's plan for fire, earthquake, flood, medical emergency and lockdown — with roles, drills and a communication chain.
The plan covers the hazards this campus realistically faces and assigns each one a named role rather than a general instruction. It is reviewed each year by the School Safety Committee, and the parts of it that involve children are rehearsed.
The single most important line in it is this: in any emergency, accounting for every child comes before securing property.
Hazards planned for
Fire
Alarm, evacuation by marked route, assembly on the ground, class-wise head count against the register, extinguisher response by trained staff, and the fire service called immediately.
Earthquake
Drop, cover and hold in place until shaking stops, then evacuation to the open ground away from the building, structural inspection before re-entry.
Heavy rain & flooding
Early-closure decision taken and communicated before dispersal, transport routes checked, children never released into a flooded route, and a shelter arrangement on campus if needed.
Medical emergency
First aid by trained staff, the health care room, the standing hospital protocol, immediate parent notification, and a staff member with the child throughout.
Lockdown or intruder
Gate closure, children moved to classrooms and doors secured, single-point communication with the police, no child released until the all-clear.
Missing child
Immediate campus search on a fixed pattern, CCTV review, parents and police informed within a defined time, and a written incident report.
Roles assigned in advance
- Incident controller — Principal, or the senior-most teacher present
- Evacuation marshals — one per floor, with a deputy
- Head-count officers — class teachers, with the attendance register
- First-aid team — trained staff, with the health care room kit
- Fire response team — staff trained on extinguishers
- Communication officer — office staff, single point of contact for parents and authorities
- Assembly point marshal — physical education teacher, on the ground
- Special assistance — named staff for any child needing help to evacuate
Preparedness
- Two evacuation drills a year, recorded, with the time taken noted
- Evacuation route maps displayed on every floor
- Emergency contact list for every child, kept current
- Fire equipment, first-aid kits and emergency lighting checked each term
- Staff briefed at the start of every academic year
- Emergency numbers displayed at reception, in the office and on every floor
- Parent communication by SMS and the school-management system
- Plan reviewed annually by the School Safety Committee
